Trump wins Elon Musk DOGE ruling, US and Russia agree to take steps towards peace in Ukraine, Nvidia bounces back, AI race heats up
Judge Rules in Favor of Trump Administration in Challenge to Elon Musk’s Government Role
A U.S. district judge denied a request from Democratic attorneys general to block Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from accessing federal agency systems and directing personnel decisions. The lawsuit, filed by more than a dozen states, argues that Musk has been granted unchecked authority in violation of the Constitution’s Appointments Clause. DOGE, created by President Trump to cut government costs, has rapidly eliminated jobs and programs since Trump’s return to office. While the judge acknowledged concerns about Musk’s authority, she ruled that the states had not justified an immediate restraining order. Other lawsuits challenging Musk’s role have had mixed outcomes, with one judge temporarily blocking DOGE from Treasury Department access while another declined to stop it from reviewing records at multiple agencies.
Judge Tanya Chutkan, who ruled on this case, was appointed by President Obama and has previously handled cases involving Trump administration policies.

U.S. and Russia Agree to Take Steps to End War in Ukraine, Improve Relations
In a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy under President Donald Trump, the U.S. and Russia agreed to initiate steps toward ending the war in Ukraine and improving bilateral relations. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov outlined three goals: restoring embassy staff, creating a team to support Ukraine peace talks, and exploring closer diplomatic and economic ties. However, the talks were criticized for excluding Ukrainian officials, a decision which prompted backlash from Ukraine and European allies. The talks mark a notable reversal from previous U.S. policy under President Joe Biden, which sought to isolate Russia. Trump’s administration, through his foreign policy approach, has expressed a willingness to negotiate with Russia, leaving questions about potential concessions. Saudi Arabia played a role in hosting the talks, emphasizing its growing diplomatic influence in the region.
This diplomatic opening to Russia under Trump’s administration marks a dramatic departure from Biden's isolationist approach. Saudi Arabia’s growing role in global diplomacy highlights Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s desire to position the kingdom as a key mediator.

Nvidia Stock Rebounds as DeepSeek Concerns Dissipate
Nvidia’s stock rose on Tuesday, continuing a three-day winning streak that has erased nearly all losses caused by concerns over China-based DeepSeek’s AI platform. Wall Street analyst Vivek Arya of BofA Securities dismissed fears over DeepSeek’s cost-cutting claims, citing increasing global AI investments as a key driver of Nvidia’s resilience. The European Commission’s recent announcement of a €200 billion investment in AI infrastructure, along with €109 billion in private sector AI spending in France, suggests strong demand for Nvidia’s hardware and software solutions. South Korea’s government has also announced plans to acquire 10,000 Nvidia GPUs for its national AI computing center, further reinforcing global demand.
H100 and H200 GPUs remain highly sought-after, with no significant decline in rental prices, according to UBS analysts. If pricing for cloud-based GPUs holds up, it could indicate that AI demand is still outpacing supply, benefiting Nvidia.

Former President Indicted for Alleged Coup and Assassination Plot in Brazil
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was indicted on Tuesday for allegedly leading a conspiracy to overturn the 2022 election results, including plans to annul the vote, disband courts, empower the military, and assassinate President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The 272-page indictment, issued by Attorney General Paulo Gonet Branco, accuses Bolsonaro and 33 other officials, including military and intelligence leaders, of crimes against Brazil’s democracy. If convicted, Bolsonaro could face 12 to 40 years in prison. The case will be reviewed by Brazil’s Supreme Court, which has aggressively pursued legal action against Bolsonaro and his allies. Bolsonaro denied the charges, calling them a political attack, and compared his situation to Donald Trump’s legal battles in the U.S. The indictment also details a plot to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has led legal actions against Bolsonaro. If found guilty, Bolsonaro would become Brazil’s third former president in eight years to be imprisoned.
Bolsonaro has long praised Brazil’s former military dictatorship (1964–1985), which was known for suppressing political opposition. Bolsonaro denies any involvement, and some critics may argue that prosecutors are relying on speculative evidence rather than proven actions.

AI Race Heats Up with xAI’s Grok3 Release
Elon Musk announced Grok 3, the latest version of xAI’s chatbot, claiming it is "an order of magnitude more capable" than its predecessor, Grok 2. During a livestream, Musk and his team emphasized Grok’s advanced reasoning abilities, reinforcement learning improvements, and ambitions to "understand the nature of the universe." Grok 3’s API will launch in the coming weeks, featuring DeepSearch, a hybrid search engine with early agent-like capabilities. A "SuperGrok" subscription will offer advanced features, while a mini version of the reasoning model will also be available. However, Musk acknowledged that Grok 3 remains in beta and is still being trained, urging users to expect imperfections at first. A planned voice mode was delayed but is expected to launch soon.
Grok 3’s development aligns with Musk’s broader AI ambitions, which include integrating AI with Tesla and Neuralink projects.
